Jacob Watt

Jacob D. Watt was born in Lima on the 4th of July, 1834. His parents, Hudson and Huldah, came from Champaign County. His wife is a daughter of James and Caroline McGarvey, and was born at Xenia, Ohio. The brothers and sisters of Mr. Watt are Sarah, Ruth, William L., Huldah A., James Hudson, Greenbury H., Samuel L., Mary C., Joseph H. and Emma A. Mr. Watt says: Thirty to thirty-five years ago a large portion of the original town plat of Lima was still covered with forest trees. There were no sidewalks, and many of the streets were obstructed with stumps, logs, etc. When he was a little boy, whenever it was muddy (which appeared to be about half the time), his father was obliged to carry him and his sister to school. "He would carry me to a log or stump, and placing me upon it would go back for my sister. He would then carry her past me to a good resting place and come back after me."
