John C. Gray


John C. Gray, son of John and Henrietta (Scott) Gray, was born in Steubenville, Jefferson Co., Ohio, February 18, 1833, and came to Holmes County with his parents in 1835. He received a common-school education, and, like his brother, Robert F., learned the plasterer's trade, which he followed for several years. December 21, 1861, he married Miss Susan McKee, daughter of Lenox T. and Mary (Bairne) McKee, of Mechanic Township. They have five children, who are yet living at home: Alvin R., Ermenia, Herbert, Eddie and Clara. Mr. Gray is a strong Democrat and has filled the office of township trustee for a number of years, and various other offices of responsibility. He is a memer of the Holmes County Agricultural Society. He and his wife attend the Methodist Episcopal Church.
