Lewis P. Ort
Lewis P. Ort, a son of John Paul Ort, who died December 18, 1861, aged 91, and Anna Catherine (Fitt) Ort, who died May 6, 1873, aged 78, coming to this county in 1867; was born in Salem township, Washington county, Ohio, March 9, 1836, and married in Maysville, Mason county, Kentucky, November 18, 1860, to Ellen Manion, born in Menlaugh county, Galway, Ireland, March 26, 1841, a daughter of Michael and Ellen (Scanlan) Manion. Their children are: George H., born February 18, 1862, in Maysville, Kentucky; Charles J., March 22, 1864, in Maysville; Anna C., July 7, 1866, at Maysville; Ella Nora, December 1867; Frank James, October 10, 1869; Lewis M., April 13, 1871; J. Justine, May 18, 1873; M. William, February 22, 1875; Mary E., January 8, 1877—the last six in Ironton, Ohio. Mr. Lewis P. Ort is publisher and printer of the Dollar Irontonian. He resides in Upper township, and settled in this county in 1867. He was elected assessor of Maysville, Kentucky, two terms, 1866-1867, term one year. He enlisted in 1862 in Company D, 10th Kentucky Cavalry, promoted to regimental bugler under General Lew. Wallace, and mustered out in 1863. Term of service one year. Mr. Lewis P. Ort started the Dollar Irontonian on November 6, 1878, which was enlarged from a four column paper of four pages to a five column, and from five to six columns, and on November 6, 1881, to seven columns and four pages—the paper is published in the interest of the people, advancement of industries, and development of iron, coal and minerals of Lawrence county.
