Arthur E. Courtney

Today is the birthday anniversary of County auditor Arthur E. Courtney, who was born in Washington township, this county, Sept. 24, 1871. His boyhood was spent on the farm and he later devoted about six years to teaching school in Troy and Madison townships, continuing at that work until seven years ago when he was appointed deputy auditor by George Weidner. In November 1906, Mr. Courtney was elected county auditor on the Democratic ticket and is now a candidate for reelection. In the Independent Order of Foresters he has been honored by election to the office of high chief ranger of the state, and he is also affiliated with the Masons, the Modern Woodmen, the Sons of Veterans and the Royal Foresters.
