John Wesley Brinker was born March 23, 1885 in Jackson Twp., Ashland Co., Ohio. He was the son of Henry Brinker (born Pennsylvania) and Susan Rebecca Miller (born Pennsylvania). John was the sixth of eight children: Nettie Elizabeth (married John C. Ober), Lodelia "Della" May (married John Royce Weaver, Sr.), Hatty Elmira (died young), Sarah Myrtle Maud (married Charles McDonald), George Washington Garfield (died young), John Wesley, Rice Leroy (married three times, first married Pearle Mabel Edwards, second married Mrs. Elva Viola (Drake) Brinker [his brother, John Wesley’s widow], and married third Luella May Carter), and Grace Lavone (married Charles Burton Keyser). John worked as a farmer and a carpenter in the West Salem, Wayne Co., Ohio and Lodi, Medina Co., Ohio areas. Before moving to Lodi, he had lived in the West Salem, Wayne County area.
John married Mrs. Elva Viola (Drake) Copas, a young divorcee, with a young son, Walter. John and Elva married April 10, 1912 in Hancock Co., Ohio where she was from. They had two daughters: Gertrude Rebecca and Edna Helen. John died April 11th, 1915 from injuries sustained when he fell a week before off of A. Buffham’s barn that he was working on. He is buried in an unmarked grave near his parents in Hazzard Cemetery near West Salem, Wayne Co., Ohio.
