M. V. COATS, general merchandise. Is a native of Darke County, Ohio. In 1856 came to Iowa County with his parents. In 1869, came to Ponca, made a homestead of 160 acres of land, which he improved. In 1874 he returned to Iowa County; engaging in farming till 1878; went to the Black Hills, remaining there one year, in the fall returning to Ponca and commenced this business. Married January 22, 1882, to Miss Nettie Mershon, of Jones County, Iowa.
