Amos Griffith


Amos Griffith was born in Aid township, November 19, 1845, and married, December 5, 1869, to Mary Chalfant, who is a native Pennsylvania, where she was born September 23, 1851. The parents of Mr. Griffith are Lewis A. and Sarelda (Stewart) Griffith. His wife’s parents are James M. and Nancy (Ketcham) Chalfant. The children of Mr. and Mrs. Griffith are: Claude B., born December 13, 1870; Charles E., December 20, 1872; John C., May 2, 1874; Lewis F., November 29, 1876; Chauncey H., January 22, 1879; James B., December 31, 1880. Mr. Griffith enlisted in June, 1863, in the 1st Ohio Heavy Artillery, Company G, and was discharged at the close of the war. He took part in all the engagements in which his company were in without a scratch. He held the office of clerk from 1878 to 1880. He was also justice of the peace from 1873 to 1876. He is a farmer of Symmes township. Address, Sherritts, Lawrence county, Ohio.
