Judge J. M. Boyer
Judge Boyer was born June 12, 1860, in Delaware county. At the age of 12 he was clerk in a drug store, continuing till 1881, when he was appointed to a clerkship in the U.S. Railway Postal Service. After two years, resigned and returned to the drug business. An ardent Republican and a worker in the party, he in 1884, was nominated for Mayor of London, but was not elected. He has served seven years as chief of the fire department, was a delegate to the National Convention in 1888, and in 1892, was appointed Postmaster of London, serving four years and eight months. He took up the study of law, and in 1894, was admitted to the Bar. President McKinley in 1898, apointed him a member of the Board of Visitors to the Annapolis Naval Academy, and in 1899, he was appointed referee in bankruptcy, and the same year elected Probate judge. He was re-elected in 1901, and filled the position with dignity and ability. Since his retirement from the bench, Judge Boyer has engaged in the general practice of the law, until June 1, when he accepted the position as claim agent for the Ohio Electric Ry. Co.
Judge Boyer is a close student and a wide reader. His love and knowledge of literature are very great, and his tastes at times lure him into the realms of art. In 1885, he married Miss Ella Chrisman. He resides in London, is prominent as Mason, and popular with all who know him.
