George R. Crego


George R. Crego, farmer, P.O. West Canaan, was born in New York July 4, 1817; he is a son of Noah D. and Abigail (Maybe) Crego. He emigrated to Ohio with his parents in 1821. His mother was born March 15, 1793, and died June 30, 1882. His father was born in December, 1793, and died in September, 1864. They were natives of York State, where they married. The father was in the war of 1812. Our subject was first married, October 8, 1838, to Rachel Cary, who was born in Madison County, Ohio, October 8, 1838 [sic]; she was a daughter of Stephen and Katie Johnson. His second marriage was to Lydia (Chellis) Pendlan, widow of Jackson Pendlan, on December 15, 1874. Her father was a native of Vermont, who was born in 1800, and died May 26, 1879. Her mother was a native of Lower Canada, where she was born May 6, 1810. Mrs. Crego was born in Vermont January 1, 1829. She is the mother of one child, J. W., born February 5, 1860. Our subject is a farmer by occupation, and a Republican in politics. He is the father of nine children, viz., Sarah, wife of L. M. Frazell; Mahala, wife of Henry Nunnamaker; Isaac, married; Elizabeth, wife of James Ruttan; Catherine, widow of Peter Strickland, who married James Mills; James, married to Hester Canada; Abram, married to Ada Fisher; Rachel, wife of Charles Chellis, and George R., Jr., single.
