He is a son of James R. and Lydia (Austin) Huff, natives of New York, the former of German and the latter of English descent. Our subject was educated at the academy in Onondaga County, N. Y., and was brought up to farm life, in which he continued until he reached his majority. On April 16. 1861, he enlisted in Company G, Seventeenth Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Capt.
