Edward Jackson

Edward Jackson came from Virginia to Shelby County in the fall of 1809, and settled on the bank of the Miami River, within the present limits of Orange township, in section 14. His home was here during the war of 1812. He built a block-house on his place for the protection of his family and neighbors against the invasion of hostile Indians. He left his family here while he joined Harrison’s army in his march through northwestern Ohio. It was during this time, while he was absent, his horses and cattle were stolen by the Indians. Mr. Jackson lived to return to his home and clear his land, and was the first man to build a brick house in the township, which still stands as a monument to his memory.
